An Open Letter About COVID-19 & The Workplace

COVID-19 is at the top of the headlines and the minds of everyone across the globe. In this time of uncertainty and disruption, we want to give you a ray of light for you and your employees.

Our goal is to inspire people to create a better workplace for everyone and we want you to feel encouraged to keep your employees safe (physically and psychologically), healthy, and engaged.

To start here are some tips we want to share:

  1. Help employees feel safe by continuously communicating as updates come in

  2. Create Trust- If you have staff that can work remotely; let them.

  3. Make sure employees have access to resources to help them cope with anxiety

  4. Be committed to your employees and their safety and wellbeing.

  5. Be proactive. Anticipate needs and questions that might come up and make a plan. Communicate that plan clearly and consistently.

  6. Equip your team leaders with information, make sure they communicate and respond to questions and concerns. Support them in this; don’t just expect them to do this.

  7. Be Flexible and Supportive

  8. Make sure employees have what they need to be successful

If remote work isn’t realistic…

  1. For workers that cannot work remotely, but need to be home with children, elderly family members or are susceptible to the virus; be flexible with them it will benefit you in the long term

  2. Help employees feel safe by continuously communicating as updates come in

  3. Ensure workers have a clean work environment and plenty of cleaning materials

  4. Make sure employees have access to resources to help them cope with anxiety

  5. Remind employees that you are committed to their safety and wellbeing

  6. Be proactive. Anticipate needs and questions that might come up and make a plan. Communicate that plan clearly and consistently

For us all, here are a few tips.

  • Stay calm. It is essential to keep yourself and others safe.

  • Keep informed. Don’t get caught up in the media frenzy. Pay attention to the latest updates from the most credible sources.

  • Ask your employer to be transparent with you about remote work expectations

  • Stay connected with your team

  • Maintain a healthy work-life balance

  • Use technology to state connected with your co-workers

  • Working from home can be a challenge if you have never done it so maintain a healthy work-life balance.

  • Take this as an opportunity to show your employer, you can work remotely and get things done.

  • Clean your space. Make sure your surfaces are clean and you plenty of cleaning materials.

  • Wash your hands with soap

  • Don’t touch your face

  • Avoid shaking hands

Most importantly, #BeKind to each other. This is about making sure we take care of each other and care for the people around us.

Stay safe!
